IJT KP Condemns Harassment Incident at University of Malakand
The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemns the recent harassment incident involving a female student at the University of Malakand. We demand a thorough and transparent investigation from the government, as well as clear and immediate actions to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
President IJT KPK Speaks Out
Asfandyar Izzat, President IJT KPK, emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, stating:
“Teachers are the backbone of our society, yet a few bad apples are tarnishing the integrity of this noble profession. It is crucial to tackle harassment head-on with a strong and immediate response. Universities must establish independent and unbiased Anti-Harassment Cells, ensuring student representation to create a safer academic environment.”
He further pointed out the role of the co-education system in increasing cases of harassment, calling on the government to establish separate educational institutions for male and female students to foster a more secure and focused learning atmosphere.
Broader Issues in the Education System
This incident also highlights deep-rooted issues within the semester system, which, according to students, needs urgent reforms. Additionally, the ban on student unions has left students without proper representation, making them more vulnerable to such injustices.
President Asfandyar Izzat stressed:
“The true cause of these ongoing issues lies in the ban on student unions. To effectively address student grievances and safeguard their rights, the government must immediately restore student unions and conduct student union elections.”
IJT KP’s Demands
- A transparent and immediate investigation into the harassment case at the University of Malakand.
- Independent and unbiased Anti-Harassment Cells in universities with student representation.
- Separation of male and female educational institutions to ensure a safer learning environment.
- Urgent reforms in the semester system to address student concerns.
- Immediate restoration of student unions and elections to empower students and protect their rights.
The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands in solidarity with the students of the University of Malakand and will continue to fight for a just, safe, and ethical academic environment.
